Foreign Minister meets the President of Japan External Trade Organisation

Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid met with Mr. Yasushi Akahoshi, President of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), in Tokyo today.

During the meeting, held at the JETRO Headquarters, Minister Shahid discussed on various issues, including increasing Japanese investment in Maldives & strengthening trade ties between the two countries.

Mr. Akahoshi was joined by Mr. Nayoshi Noguchi, Vice President of JETRO, at the meeting.

The Minister is accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of Finance His Excellency Ibrahim Ameer, the Minister of Economic Development His Excellency Uz Fayyaz Ismail, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Maldives in Japan.

Foreign Minister meets the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan

Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid met with His Excellency Taro Kono, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, in Tokyo today.

During the meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Minister Shahid recalled his visit to Japan in 2007 to open the Embassy of the Maldives in Tokyo and Minister noted that it marked as a new era in the Maldives – Japan relations. Foreign Minister Kono warmly welcomed the Minister back to Japan and reaffirmed Tokyo’s commitment to further strengthen the historic and friendly relations between the two countries. Read more

Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with the Minister of Environment of Japan

Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid met with Minister of Environment of Japan, His Excellency Yoshiaka Harada, this morning in Tokyo.

At the meeting held at the Ministry of Environment of Japan, Minister Shahid recognized and commended the role of Japan in the global arena in pushing for action against climate change. The Minister further thanked the Government of Japan, for the continuous assistance to the Maldives in building the resilience and disaster risk reduction of Maldives. Read more

Minister of Foreign Affairs departs to Japan on an Official Visit

Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has departed to Tokyo, Japan, today on his first official visit to Japan since assuming office.

During this visit, Minister Shahid will meet with His Excellency Taro Kono, Minister of Foreign Affairs and other high level officials of the Government of Japan, and hold discussion on further strengthening the historic and close bilateral ties between the Maldives and Japan. Read more

INDO-MALDIVES TIES SOLIDIFIES FOLLOWING THE STATE VISIT MADE TO INDIA- PRESIDENT SOLIH

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the slowly fading Indo-Maldives relations have been revitalized and further solidified following the State Visit made to India, on invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He made this remark while speaking at a Press Conference held at the President’s Office this afternoon to brief the local media on the highlights of the State Visit.

Speaking at the Press Conference, President underscored that during the State Visit, Indian government agreed to provide leniency in facilitating visa arrangements for Maldivian citizens travelling to India for education, tourism and medical purposes. He further stated that this would enable many Maldivians who send their children to school in India, to be able to accompany them and that the agreement would also facilitate easier visa access for Maldivian citizens and their families, who travel to India for medical treatment.
