“International cooperation is the most important mechanism to counter terrorism and violent extremism” – Foreign Minister Asim

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has said that “international cooperation is the most important mechanism to counter terrorism and violent extremism”. The Minister made this remark following the international seminar on “Counter Terrorism and Violent Extremism: Challenges and Solutions through Shared Experiences” that concluded today. The Seminar, which was held from 25-26 October 2016 in Kurumba Maldives, was organized by the National Counter Terrorism Centre of the Maldives, in association with United Nations, UN Women, and the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI).

Ambassador meets Mr. C.K. Nayal, Member of the Press Council of India

Ambassador H.E. Ahmed Mohamed met Mr. C.K. Nayal, member of the Press Council of India today at the Embassy of Maldives. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the participation of Maldives Media Council in the celebration of Golden Jubilee of the National Press Day of India on 16 November 2016.

Mr. Nayak appraised Ambassador Ahmed on the programme for the day, which will include discussion on the formation of the South Asia Alliance of Press Councils. This event is going to continue for two days.

Chief Justice of the Maldives arrives in New Delhi on an official visit

The Chief Justice of the Maldives Honourable Justice Uz. Abdullah Saeed arrived in New Delhi this evening on an official bilateral visit. The Chief Justice and the accompanying delegation was received at New Delhi airport by Ambassador H.E. Ahmed Mohamed and other diplomats from the Maldives Embassy.

During this visit the Chief Justice of the Maldives will meet and hold discussions with the Chief Justice of India Honourable Mr. Justice T.S. Thakur and some of the senior most Honourable Justices from the Supreme Court of India.

Foreign Minister sends condolences following the fire incident at Bubaneshwar Hospital

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim has sent a message of condolence to the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Her Excellency Ms. Sushma Swaraj, following the fire incident at Sum Hospital Bubaneshwar on Monday, 17 October 2016, which has caused the loss of many lives and injured many more.

Ambassador meets with Chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council

Ambassador H.E. Ahmed Mohamed met the Chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Shri Naresh Kumar at NDMC today. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and seek guidance on the processes and procedures to obtain building permission for the design concept and drawings prepared for the chancery of the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in New Delhi, India. 

A plot of land from the Chanakyapuri area of New Delhi was allotted by India to Maldives in 2013. The Chanakyapuri area is the main diplomatic enclave of New Delhi.

The design consultants and the project lawyer also participated in the meeting.
